We need you!!!

Thank you all for all you’ve done so far! You have been AMAZING!

I need your help on this final push to get this house done. Our plan is to open up Mon-Thurs next week with the goal of having the house completely done by that Thursday, September 1. (In reality we might still need a cleaning day or two)

Andy Lakatos, our fearless houseleader has been amazing at working weeks beyond our original schedule due to the addition, but he has other obligations after Labor Day, so we are having a mini-blitz week of sorts to get this home done. If there’s anyone you know who can come out during the week – please invite them to join us.

Once again, we will be working this weekend, Thursday-Sunday, August 25-27, taking Sunday off, and then Monday – Thursday, August 29-September 1.

You can sign up, as always, at http://www.h4h.volunteerhub.com

Please come out once, or many times!  I sincerely thank you for your help!

Maggie

P.S. Check out how amazing that addition is looking! Thanks to you all!!!

Thrivent Builds Repair Program

About Thrivent Builds Repair:

Your congregation is invited to be part of an exciting pilot program!

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is again partnering with Habitat to make a difference in the community. This pilot program, Thrivent Builds Repairs, will be investing in neighborhoods where Habitat already builds or renovates. However, this project will focus on families in the neighborhood who are in need of critical repairs or weatherization of their homes, and cannot afford it on their own. Like Habitat’s homeownership program, this is a zero-percent loan to the family, with a sweat-equity component, meaning the families will work along-side your congregation to make the repair.

We need YOU!

Donate:

This project will cost $4,000. Thrivent has pledged $2,000 to this project, and Habitat is raising an additional $1,000, leaving $1,000 to be raised through a few local Lutheran Congregations. We are asking you to try to raise $250-$500 dollars in support of the Marks Family.

Volunteer:

August 26 and 27 from 8 am to 4 pm.

Sign up to volunteer at www.h4h.volunteerhub.com, or by contacting Maggie Porter: mporter@h4h.org or734.677.1558, ext. 119

Thrivent Builds Repair Family & Their Home

About the Family:

Meet the Marks family. Livia, the homeowner, shares this three bedroom home with her daughter and three grandchildren. Her own mother lived there until last month, when she passed away.

Christine is a hard-working single mom to Brandon, Bryana, and TJ. She works at a local pharmacy to support her beautiful family.

Brandon will be attending Washtenaw Community College in the fall, Bryana is about to start her freshman year at Ypsilanti High, and TJ is 9 months old. He’ll give you a big smile if you just look at him!

The Marks are a happy family, and have owned this home for 35 years. They are so grateful for the opportunity to work with Thrivent Finanical, Lutheran Congregations and Habitat for Humanity.

About the Project:

The Mark’s home is in need of several repairs, but the most urgent is the roof, which is actively leaking. They cannot afford to have it replaced from a traditional roofing company. We will be replacing the roof on the home and the garage where the family spends much of their time during the summer months. Volunteers will work along side professional roofers to complete this project.

Like all Habitat families, The Marks will have a zero-percent interest loan and earn sweat-equity as they work alongside volunteers.

Their home is located in Nancy Park, an area that Habitat has committed too. We have strategically targeted Nancy Park because it has been identified as an area hit hardest by the mortgage crisis.  Yet, it is a well-kept, family-oriented, residential neighborhood close to one of Ypsilanti’s best schools. Public transportation is easily accessible and the neighbors have established a strong neighborhood watch program.

Focusing our building in a concentrated area, such as Nancy Park, allows Habitat to have a much larger impact in a neighborhood. Our homes improve the entire community, raising property values and invigorating a neighborhood and building community.  Seeing the selfless number of hours poured into projects by volunteers infuses a sense of pride among current residents. Their excitement builds from the day we arrive and begin renovating to the day we dedicate the home.

We have finished and sold homes to the Miller, Taylor, Krisel and Aldrich families  and are currently renovating two more homes.

The past couple of weekends have been super productive at the Thrivent house. This special project is coming along thanks to our amazing volunteers onsite.

Due to adding the addition and subsequent delays with getting inspections, we are still in need of volunteers this upcoming weekend. The next few days will be exciting and fast as we build an addition from scratch, lay flooring throughout the house, and complete finishing details on the rest of the home.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered in the past and to those who will volunteer in the future, we couldn’t have done it without you :) .

Enjoy these snapshots of the dedicated workers onsite.
